As a non-partisan national organization linking the business, industry, political and civil society communities, the CTAI informs the public about consumer-relevant issues in artificial intelligence, fosters public debate on the subject and develops requirements and tools for trustworthy AI.
As a forum for debate in Germany, the CTAI helps make more tangible the developments regarding the societal issues associated with artificial intelligence and algorithmic systems. The science partners at Fraunhofer AISEC and Fraunhofer IAIS as well as Freie Universität Berlin conduct research on basic requirements for trustworthy AI such as privacy, robustness, fairness and explainability.

Motivation and values
What in your view defines the public interest and how does your project meet this purpose?
Algorithmic systems and artificial intelligence have a significant impact on our lives. But how can algorithmic systems and AI be designed for the benefit of society? As a forum of debate for different stakeholders, the CTAI is trying to find answers to such questions.
The CTAI is a non-partisan national organization that acts as a network designer. Our goal is to bring together diverse stakeholders with their respective approaches and ideas in order to discuss conditions for a trustworthy AI.

We regard trustworthiness as important prerequisite for the potential social benefit of AI systems. For this purpose, we discuss requirements for trustworthy AI with diverse stakeholders. Our partners from the academic research explore technical aspects of trustworthiness criteria and develop processes and tools for AI testing.

Our basic approach is to bring together different actors, perspectives and voices on trustworthy AI. For this purpose, we develop inclusive formats with diverse participants and enable discussions on equal terms at eye level.

Transparent AI systems are vital for trust in AI and the trustworthiness of such systems. We explore the possibilities of formats and methods to increase the transparency and explainability of AI systems also for the general public.
